Working in Social Media and Influencer Marketing: Wings of Hope Workshop
On Tuesday, 5th March, WOHAA held a Social Media and Influencer Marketing workshop by Daisy Hart for our WOHAA participants.
Daisy started the workshop by talking through her personal journey from university to life working in social media. She shared that, while she was still in school, she was a bit uncertain of what she wanted to do as a career. She made the choice to study English as it would be broad enough to give her multiple industry options. While in university, the world of social media was on the rise, so she began posting regularly on her own account. She found that she started to grow quite a following, and, in doing so, she realized that this was an industry that would allow her the opportunity to work her way up as the industry grew. Due to this realization, she chose to pursue the marketing side of social media post-university and accepted a role working as a Social Media and Content Marketing Executive at Supreme Creations/Bags of Ethics. She has since worked with several agencies, and is now an Account Director for CJ, a global affiliate platform.
After hearing about Daisy’s journey into Social Media and Content Marketing, our students had the opportunity to have a Q&A for the remainder of the workshop. In this Q&A, Daisy gave tips on how to know when agencies are hiring, noting that many of them use their newsletters as a resource and the students should subscribe to those newsletters for the chance at any opportunities that may arise. She gave tips on how to keep up with trends, and to know what trends will work for your specific content and audience making it clear that research is key.
The workshop ended with Daisy confirming that being an influencer has the potential to be a secure job as long as you put in the work and stay consistent in your research.
