Wings of Hope Achievement Awards is delighted to announce a partnership with eBay for the 2024/25 Community in Action WOHAA Award.
A key life skill we have been focusing on at WOHAA is sustainability. Current and past WOHAA students have shown that young people can truly lead in shifting behaviours to be more sustainable in their communities. Previous WOHAA community action projects range from lights-off marathons, litter picking, and building animal shelters to tree planting and beach cleans. A real favourite activity and project for students recently has been second-hand sales at school and in their local communities—selling old books, fashion items, and customising pre-loved fashion pieces into new, desirable items.
“When I witnessed the work of the WOHAA students at the Semi-Finals presentations in Westminster, I was deeply inspired by their energy, talent, and determination. I wish I had WOHAA when I was in school, as I know the skills I would have learned would be invaluable in my work at eBay and beyond. WOHAA is an important charity, sharing many of the values we hold at eBay, and I can’t wait for us to meet the students again and to support the essential work WOHAA does across schools and communities in the UK and internationally,” says Jemma Tadd, Head of Fashion- eBay, UK.
As a leading global platform for selling pre-loved products, eBay has driven a shift in consumer mindsets, making second-hand goods fashionable and desirable.
We were thrilled to have Jemma, Head of Fashion at eBay, join us for the 2023/24 WOHAA Semi-Finals. Her presence provided a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the incredible creativity and innovation demonstrated by our teams. Jemma shares our deep commitment to sustainability, and we are excited to announce that eBay will be partnering with us to further promote this important cause.
As part of the partnership, a special “choose your charity” option has been set up at checkout for Wings of Hope, allowing students and donors using the eBay platform to fundraise seamlessly for the charity.
We encourage all students who are conducting pre-loved sales as part of their WOHAA project to use this function and reach out to the WOHAA team for further assistance.
“WOHAA has given us the chance to make a meaningful impact on our local community by promoting sustainability. Through collaboration, negotiation, and hands-on experience, we’ve learned that even small actions can bring us closer to creating a more sustainable future for everyone”- Keda, Oxford International College.
“Without hesitation, I would recommend WOHAA to other schools. The programme’s unique approach to learning and community service is unparalleled, and the positive impact on our students’ growth is evident” – Jason Brooks, Director of Supercurricular, Oxford International College.
