Wings of Hope Achievement Awards and Michael Dapaah Announce Partnership for the WOHAA Award for Excellence in Entertainment and Creative Arts.

The Wings of Hope Achievement Awards (WOHAA) is delighted to welcome Michael Dapaah, British actor, rapper, and comedian, as an ambassador and fund partner for the Excellence in Entertainment & Creative Arts Awards for students.

Launching this October 2024 as part of the 20th anniversary of WOHAA, Dapaah will lead an initiative to champion and support students to showcase skills in the creative arts.

What is WOHAA?

WOHAA is a social enterprise programme for 13 – 18 year olds, and is a UK registered charity. The charity has worked with over 40,000 secondary school students across 600+ schools in the UK. Students get into groups of up to six in a team, and do creative fundraising projects to support children in Malawi and India to get education.

WOHAA Award for Excellence in Entertainment and Creative Arts

There are many award categories for WOHAA, but this particular category will reward students who have done projects which involve entertainment in all forms, and communicate in creative ways. Recipients of this award will be judged on their talents in the creative arts. This could be acting, comedy, performing arts, rap, music, poetry, fashion, immersive art forms, illustration, photography, spoken word, and videography. These all are to be held in your local communities and funds raised from the events will be going to the Wings of Hope Children’s Charity.

TIMELINE & WHO CAN ENTER

  • September – March The WOHAA programme runs from every year.
  • Anyone in the UK can enter, as long as you are aged between 13 – 18 years old
  • Students are encouraged to sign up as early as possible so that they can make the most of the workshops and mentoring hosted by the charity.
  • You can enter as a team of up to 6.
  • Ask your school to see if they want an assembly.
  • The charity encourages at least 2 fundraising events (one big, one small) for Wings of Hope and 1 community project.

MICHAEL DAPAAH x WINGS OF HOPE PARTNERSHIP

Michael Dapaah, has been a supporter of the charity since 2018 (Back to School Day – The Wings of Hope), and shares the ambition to give students a platform and spotlight for creative talents through a variety of methods.

Students doing the WOHAA project will focus on their creative skills as a means of fundraising and raising awareness of the Wings of Hope. Student winners of this award will get mentoring, access to digital tools, and workshop opportunities led by Michael Dapaah and Wings of Hope and various leading people from the creative arts industries– from youth culture and well-established artists.

I remember the challenges I faced when I was starting out, having big ideas but lacking the resources to bring them to life. That’s what inspired me to create the Dapaah Fund, a platform dedicated to supporting the next generation of creative talent across the arts. I truly believe that creativity is a powerful, God-given gift. It’s a means of expression, a form of art, and for many, including myself, it has unlocked freedom and opportunity. Through the Wings of Hope X Dapaah Fund initiative, we aim to empower emerging creatives to pursue their passions and live out their dreams too.
