Howard Wong – How to Build & Run A Business
On 14th February 2024, Howard Wong, a second generation entrepreneur, and co-founder of Little Moons, a fast-growing frozen foods business spoke to Wings of Hope Achievement Awards students about his journey in building a business.
Howard, who went to school in London, and then went onto study Economics at Cambridge University, did not have plans to join his family business in desserts. However after a stint in Banking decided to join forces with his sister and founded the Little Moons mochi ice-cream business.
Howard talked about many areas of business including:
- Branding, and creative marketing, including the explosion of consumer interest from a viral Tiktok tasting video.
- Hiring and motivating staff
- Seeking investment from businesses, venture capitalists and banks
- Product development and taste trials
- The road to sustainability
- Working with major supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, ASDA and other retail outlets in Selfridges, Westfield and overseas.
- The challenges of operating a factory.
- Skills that he has learnt including humility, learning to delegate, understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses.
- Working with family
Howard’s honest and open approach was fascinating for the students who joined, who also took part in a Q&A session, hosted by Smruti from Wings of Hope.
