On Wednesday, 14th February 2024, our WOHAA participants had the pleasure of joining a Zoom call with our students in Chennai, South India.
The call started off with a Q&A where our participants could learn about life in Chennai and share their experiences living in the UK.
During this Q&A we learned that the students in Chennai are passionate about subjects such as accounting, science, and music, and they wish to grow up to be charter accountants, and physiologists.
We learned that a day in the life of a Chennai student consists of waking up at 04:30 to shower, have breakfast, and get ready for the day.
They have assembly at 08:30 for prayer, followed by a glass of milk, then school from 09:00-15:55.
After a short afternoon break, the students have their evening studies from 18:45-20:00.
Once evening studies have finished, they enjoy their dinner and get ready for bed to begin again the next day.
Both the WOHAA participants and the students in Chennai shared their favourite movies, foods, books, and places in their country.
One of the Chennai students let us know that, out of anywhere in the world, he would most like to visit L.A. purely out of interest for the city.
A participant from Dulwich College shared that he speaks fluent English and Spanish, and is currently learning Chinese, Japanese, and Italian.
One of our students in Chennai asked for him to teach us a small bit of Japanese including:
- I (referring to oneself) – Watashi
- Thank you – Arigato
The Zoom call ended with a musical show-and-tell. The students in Chennai sang and played the Veena, and team Sister Strength from
St. Cecelia’s Church of England School sang and played the guitar.
It was an informative discussion that we certainly hope to do again in the near future, so keep an eye on our events page for more!
