Wings of Hope Kickstarter Day – October 2024
On Saturday 5th October 2024, we were delighted to welcome the first cohort from the 2024-2025 WOHAA class to their Kickstarter Day.
Held at the world-renowned London Business School, teams from schools across the country came to commence their Wings of Hope Achievement Awards journey.
The day is held in partnership with the Volunteering Club of London Business School and comprised of WOHAA students hearing from some of the Master’s Students of the university. The workshop was held in the beautiful campus settings near Regent’s Park in London.
To commence the day, students were put in groups and took part in ice-breaking activities including who could build the highest house of cards.
Wings of Hope mentors then were assigned to different student tables to guide them, in a structured manner, about their “WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHY, HOW and WHY” planning sheets.
Students were guided on project planning, how to come up with ideas, how to formulate team names, and logos. They were also given tips on branding, design, and practical tips on organising events inside and outside of school.
“In our 20th anniversary year, I was delighted to see so many students take time out of their Saturday to join us for the WOHAA Kickstarter Day. This day really forms the basis of their projects, which can last several months. It is important to set strong foundations so that students are ambitious and feel supported by us at Wings of Hope. It always brings such a buzz, and excitement to us at the charity, to meet the students face-to-face. We look forward to seeing how they progress, and welcoming them to future mentoring and skills workshops sessions,” said Rajni Sriram, Co-Founder of the Wings of Hope.
Team 6 Magpies from Wycombe High School – It is nice to meet different students from different schools and learn tips and tricks to kickstart our WOHAA journey. We are truly hoping to reach GOLD to match our Team Name rhyme of “6 for Gold”
Team Pandora’s Box from Wallington High School for Girls – The volunteers gave us some great ideas of how to run fundraisers; we already had a few ideas, but learning about the ‘5 Ws’, really helped us with our mock planning.
Team Enterprise4Education from St Paul’s Boys’ School – Throughout the workshop, we got to share our initial ideas and learn how best to put them into action. It was great to hear about success stories with previous winners to get an idea of how high to aim!
We are very grateful for the support given by London Business School – the students, staff and academics.
