The Wings of Hope Children’s Charity was founded by Dr Ram Sriram and Mrs Rajni Sriram around 20 years ago. In addition, we have two programmes - The Wings of Hope Achievements Awards (WOHAA) which helps students from UK to develop transferable skills. The Wings of Hope Charity supports financially children in poor countries with their education.
We are able to achieve this through The Wings of Hope Achievement Awards(WOHAA) a social enterprise programme which was set up 18 years ago, for our very own UK secondary school children. Through participating in this programme, we are confident that our UK children will become socially conscious global citizens whilst learning exceptional skills outside of their school curriculum. Career based events like Speed Mentoring allow them to interact face to face with high achieving young professionals in the field of Accountancy, Banking, Computer Science ,Dentistry, Engineering, Medicine,Music, Journalism, Travel, Veterinary Science and much more. Holding Speaker events like Back to School, with distinguished Speakers such as Sir Robin Butler(worked with 5 UK prime ministers), BBC presenter Justin Webb(sharing his amazing stories with world leaders like Nelson Mandela) and Rapper – Big Shaq or Michael Dapper.
We are very proud to have made a difference to over 35,300 students from 612 schools all over Britain over the last eighteen years.
All this would not be possible without the help and support of so many individuals and organisations, for which we are very grateful.
Best wishes,
Co-founders of the Wings of Hope Children’s Charity: Mrs Rajni and Dr Ram Sriram
The Wings of Hope charity believes in the transformative power of education.
Our primary aim is to provide our UK students, particularly those at a socio-economic disadvantage, with the opportunity to learn key transferrable skills, to access relevant and impartial careers advice, and to grow and nurture their confidence, independence and sense of social responsibility.
Our secondary aim is to open up opportunities for the poor and underprivileged children we support in India and Malawi, by providing them with a free education.
We believe these aims are a valued contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as part of achieving Goal Number 4 ‘Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’.
The Sustainable Development Goals are an initiative begun in 2015 by the United Nations which have shifted our interpretation of development from simply getting bigger and richer, to thinking how all parts of the world can work together to achieve long-lasting and responsible progress in areas such as education, health, but also environmental sustainability.
There are 17 goals which range from Goal Number 1 ‘Ending Poverty‘ to Goal Number 13 ‘Climate Action‘ and even Goal Number 17 ‘Building Partnerships for the Goals’. The aim is to achieve these goals by 2030 in order to build a better planet for everyone living here.
